Divorce is difficult for all involved, especially the children, and especially during the holidays. The family dynamic can get pretty hectic, but even more so during the holidays. Children of divorce will experience a different set of traditions from each parent. With the holidays fast approaching, we are going to discuss some of the ways your family can survive the 2015 holiday season.
- Discuss the holiday schedule ahead of time, especially if the children will have a few weeks off school, and always put the needs of the child first.
- Don’t turn the holidays into a competition. No one benefits from the parents trying to one-up each other with gifts, vacations, or holiday activities.
- If you’re in that place with your ex where you have a good relationship its important to communicate about any gifts you may be giving to the child. One great idea is for both parents to go in and get the child that is from both mom and dad.
- Your old family dynamic is no more, but this is a great time to start new holiday traditions with your children.
- Don’t make the children feel guilty for spending time at your ex’s house. Your child deserves peace between the parents so always put their feelings first.
